The crafty side of Chickengirl

I finally got around to taking some pictures of the crafts I 've been working on. I got this fabulous Hello kitty sewing machine for Christmas (you can get one too from Target.com, isn't it cute!) Its very basic but it gets the job done.
I am only a beginner and right now I am just happy to figure out the technical side of things. Everywhere online people are so generous to give tutorials. Also, I 've been getting many books on sewing from the library.

So here are some stuff I've been making. My first lined tote bag. I even made pockets on the inside for my cel phone and things. I squealed with glee when it "worked." The tutorial was from Super Eggplant:
And the coolest criss cross coasters tutorial from Allsorts. Here is my version, except I kinda made them too small...but glasses still fit on top of it OK. I like how the color combination worked out though:
My TV died about two weeks ago, so to keep myself entertained I've been crafting in the evenings. Its better than being a couch potato....

I love the the things you made! I have been wanting to learn to sew for so long, but couldn't justify buying a sewing machine. Now, I am contemplating the blue one you got or the green one(more money). I wish that they carried them in the stores so I could see them side by side, but they are available only online. Has it been easy to use?

A Hello Kitty sewing machine! Great. I´m looking forward to seeing what you will sew/create next. What about a huge chicken? Have I ever told you that I´m having a stuffed chicken (well I think it´s a cock) sitting next to my computer. It´s a funny guy and when I see it I often think of you. Sometime I´m going to send you a photo of it!

Your bag looks really good! I have that same fabric and the blue one that is in your coasters. Aren't those coasters addicting?

WOW! those are awesome! I have a hello kitty sewing machine too, but it smaller than your and pink. ;) Very cute, but give me trouble sometimes. I love what you did with it though!
PS: thanks for stopping in!

Hi Chickengirl! Just wanted to say that your tote bag and coasters are soooo beautiful. I am so impressed!!! These items confirm my theory that you are an artistic genius. The bag and coasters look like they could be sold at Urban Outfitters!!! The sewing machine is adorable, by the way!

I came across your blog doing a search on Hello Kitty sewing machines. I've been thinking about getting the one you have or the mint green one. I'm thinking yours is practical enough for me to use just for traveling. I have a Singer 7422 that I sew with. Will yours cover just the basics (straight stitching, reverse, hemming, zig zag, etc.) I need or do you think I should get the upgrade? The button and light features are a little enticing but it's a huge price jump. I just don't see myself getting too detailed while on travel.
