Trees

The very talented Alicia Padrón is holding a lovely giveaway of her book, The Wish Trees. To enter, she asked everyone to submit an illustration that demonstrates the importance of a tree, so here is mine.

I thought about how trees were homes to animals. Or cafes. Somehow it morphed into looking like a book cover. A possible book idea?!

Anyways, visit Alicia's blog and enter, the deadline is July 4th!

another amazing design Jannie, okay I have to know how do you get that texture and how do you get it to fit into the shape? I am trying to learn my way through this illustrator and having a hard time trying to make it look painted and not computerized! Argh!

Thanks, all!!!

Ellen and Zari: to get textures-I bring in textured tiff files from photoshop or use the brush settings in Illustrator. Also to have it fit in the shape, I use a clipping mask. Hope that helps you guys to get you started!

Congrats on winning, Jannie! I knew you would! :) Your entry was my favorite, too! Everyone did a great job and there were so many wonderful pieces, it had to be difficult to choose winners. CONGRATULATION! Now if you make a book out of this, you'll have to dedicate it to Alicia and her babies!
