Picture Book Directory 2009

Yesterday I received my copy of Picture-Book for 2009, A directory of Children's Illustration. And what is the first thing I do? Flip through and find my own page, of course!
And then I get that same feeling I always seem to get when I look at my own piece in Picture-Book: "Oh man! I could of done better than this!"

These ads for the directory are always done over a year in advance. Alot of time goes by before you can see it in print- along with alot of other talented illustrators in the book. I'd like to think I've grown with my art since a year ago.

So what do I do now? Make a better piece for the 2010 Directory.

The illustration is great, and represents you very well.

Don't let your inner critic take over and fill you wit doubt.

I think it's great that your art is always evolving and improving. I sometimes feel embarassed at what I was putting out a year or two ago!

That said, this illo is fantastic and as Tom said it represents your style very well. x

I think it looks great! I think you will always feel that way about your own work. We are the hardest on ourselves.

Congrats!

I love it!

I think it looks great too! I think most illustrators can relate to the "old work" syndrome. In our heads we see what is possible, that is what makes an artist better though, always pushing forward to that vision in our heads and every now and then hitting gold.

It sure looks great to me!!! I know what you mean though. It's the occupational hazard of being an artist, I suppose.

This is a really wonderful piece. I think you are probably the only person in the world that would see any flaws... we're always hardest on ourselves. I love your characters and color sense.

Fabulous piece in PB Jannie!! I know EXACTLY what you are saying, though. I'm feeling similar. I love my piece but my work has evolved. It's just the way it goes, eh? ;)
