This looks a bit different than my usual work because I wanted to play more and not think about if this could be a portfolio piece for me-which freezes me up.
Some thoughts when I made this piece:
- -more texture!
- -A more conscious decision about changing my usual color palette. Looked at colourlovers.com for inspiration
- -love the look of organic line work and wanted to incorporate that in my work
- -Should I draw people or animals? How about just some blobs instead?

Hey, I like this one a lot, especially the contrast of solid painted cart and characters with soft background, and nice pigeons. Very original look, well done!
Really cool work. I love your style. Those transparent pigeons rule. Great take on the topic.
Great illo and great style!
I´m hungry now! ;)
It's great to re-evaluate and challenge your personal style. And IF is a great excuse to do that.
It is always a pleasure to see your work ;)
I like the mixture of organic line and solid colour. IF is a great spring/sounding board for finding direction, I think.
As always...wonderfull work!
I love how this turned out! The texture behind the line work looks greats. It give the piece dimension.
This worked out really well. I love the two birds in the front with just the lines and no colouring. It's playful and they fit in perfectly.
love the lines & texture... your stuff is top-notch.
This is so cute, love the texture and the details you've put into the scene, very fun!

Wow, great illustration. I love the new style (well... Loved th other one too) but you did a terrific job on this one, really funny. Like the mix of textures.
It's really well done, Jannie. I like adding line work with filled bits in as well, it's adds just a little different dynamic, keeps it interesting! The texture looks great!
WOW, I rally like this one!!! The textures and lines are great!!
Jannie.... nice twist on all of this. The characters, the color and the subject.
I love this!! It makes me wonder exactly how much I've spent on overpriced movie/zoo/ballgame/concert/museum/carnival food and drinks over the years...
P.S.: Thanks for visiting my blog!
I heart Chickengirl! :)
I love it! Yum yum.
Love it!! Brilliant!!
Love this illustration. All your work is great but I like that you've been experimenting with other styles. I like the treatment of the background, the characters and colors. The whole thing works very well! Look forward to seeing more down the road.

I love this illo! The colors and linework and expressions on the characters are so much fun!

I love the blobs! And the texture feels so warm and cozy on this one.
i'd say you were successful in addressing all 4 thoughts...really great rendering for 'twist'!
Great colors and characters.
And thanks for the notes.
Your illustrations are amazing I love them all! I just found you through illustration friday and I look forward to more of your pictures!
Chicken girl - Love this illo! The blobs are really fun and I really like the line drawing you added. If you ask me, this is a keeper for the portfolio!
This illustration is great, love the characters, the colors, and also the TWIST!...
not liking the "blobs". at first quick glance little one looks like a tree trunk, big one looks like a hot dog.
This turned out really great! The texture really works here.
I love this, the colors, the textures, the lines! Great work again! And forget what "anonymous" said...they're BLOBS! They're supposed to look like blobby tree trunks and hot dog shapes!:) Everyone here loves them. Keep up the great work, Jannie!
This is really great! I love the combination of line drawing in the background with the solid color foreground "blob" people. I didn't even notice they were just blobs (I keep typing "blogs" instead) until I read what you wrote. Thanks for describing your process and inspirations, and for the link to the color lovers site.
This is fab fab FAB!! I love your work whether planned out or not - it is all great. This is rtealkly fun, love blob!!
