Illustration Friday-Twist

This week's IF topic "twist" made me think of the very over priced $3 pretzel I had at the Bronx Zoo this past weekend. But I was starving.

This looks a bit different than my usual work because I wanted to play more and not think about if this could be a portfolio piece for me-which freezes me up.

Some thoughts when I made this piece:
  1. -more texture!
  2. -A more conscious decision about changing my usual color palette. Looked at colourlovers.com for inspiration
  3. -love the look of organic line work and wanted to incorporate that in my work
  4. -Should I draw people or animals? How about just some blobs instead?
I do hope I get back to posting on IF more frequently....I've been missing it weeks at a time. Thanks for visiting! :-)

Hey, I like this one a lot, especially the contrast of solid painted cart and characters with soft background, and nice pigeons. Very original look, well done!

Really cool work. I love your style. Those transparent pigeons rule. Great take on the topic.

It's great to re-evaluate and challenge your personal style. And IF is a great excuse to do that.
It is always a pleasure to see your work ;)

I like the mixture of organic line and solid colour. IF is a great spring/sounding board for finding direction, I think.

This worked out really well. I love the two birds in the front with just the lines and no colouring. It's playful and they fit in perfectly.

I love this!! It makes me wonder exactly how much I've spent on overpriced movie/zoo/ballgame/concert/museum/carnival food and drinks over the years...

Love this illustration. All your work is great but I like that you've been experimenting with other styles. I like the treatment of the background, the characters and colors. The whole thing works very well! Look forward to seeing more down the road.

not liking the "blobs". at first quick glance little one looks like a tree trunk, big one looks like a hot dog.

I love this, the colors, the textures, the lines! Great work again! And forget what "anonymous" said...they're BLOBS! They're supposed to look like blobby tree trunks and hot dog shapes!:) Everyone here loves them. Keep up the great work, Jannie!

This is really great! I love the combination of line drawing in the background with the solid color foreground "blob" people. I didn't even notice they were just blobs (I keep typing "blogs" instead) until I read what you wrote. Thanks for describing your process and inspirations, and for the link to the color lovers site.
