AADL Summer Reading Program

I had the honor to work with my local library, the AADL, to design and illustrate their summer reading games program. I'm a big fan of theirs. Ever since I moved to Ann Arbor 2 years ago, I had attended tons of interesting workshops and forums at the library. Not to mention, I gave my very own talk there. Check it out here.

And when they asked if I could do a Richard Scarry like town with many characters using the library in different ways- of course I'm on board! I initially did people:

And when I found out they were more interested in anthropomorphic animals- even better!

And speaking of libraries and anthropomorphic animals- I'm teaching a workshop! Its called Creating and Drawing Anthropomorphic Animals Characters with Jannie Ho. Its on Saturday, July 16th from 1to 2:30pm, at the Downtown Ann Arbor District Library. Its free for teens and adults to attend, so if you are in the area, hope to see you there.

Screen Printing Workshop

A few weekends ago, I took a silkscreening workshop over at Blue House Ann Arbor. The last time I did silk screening was in my art school days (and that was a long time ago.) And of course I had to be the idiot who pulled emulsion on the screen while it was laying flat and got it all over the table. Blah.

Anyways, it did turn out well, since I got my evil robot design onto a few tees and a few scraps of test fabric, which I'll hopefully turn into a tote bag.

So what next? Do I want to start my silk screening empire? I actually have a basement in which I can set up shop. But who knows, I already have way too much on my plate. It will be on my list of many things I want to do. It is alot of fun.

Claymation Puppet Workshop

I took an awesome 1 day claymation puppet workshop with Brad Pattullo at my local library. In 5 hours, we were able to build a clay puppet and play around with istopMotion.

My husband came along and he made the dinosaur while I made the duck. There wasn't much time left but we managed to play around and made this.

It definitely wet my appetite for more. Now all I can think of is to build more puppets.

A Workshop I am Excited About!

I just got an email today from the Society of Illustrators announcing a workshop with Illustrator Marcos Chin. He is pretty famous for his illustrations for the Lavalife ad campaign that is all over NYC. I can't be more excited since I am a big fan of his work (plus all that time sitting in the subway staring at his ads and wondering how he did it.) I signed up after 2 minutes I got the email.

This workshop requires that you "bring your own fully charged laptop," which I thought was really funny. Even though I am a digital artist and I do indeed have a laptop, I've never gone to a workshop that runs that way. Welcome to the new age of technology.

Another note- The Original Art show is now up at the Society of Illustrators, which showcases art from children's books of the year. I haven't gotten a chance to check it out yet, but will hopefully go this weekend (and dreaming to be in the show one day.) Running now till November 26th.
