A friend tells me I'm slacking, so I better get back to the challenge. I think I am slacking because its getting difficult for me to draw something "fun" that involves drawing people. (If you missed it, my challenge was to draw people for 21 days.)
Anyways, some experimenting with line and texture. This doesn't look like my usual work. I'm not yet sure if I like it or not.

Love the this picture Jannie. I like all the background texture. I want to see more of this story. Like what happens after the guy feeds the fish too much.
Looks good, Jannie. I am a big fan of textured, sketchy illustrations. My only suggestion would be to redo the nose. It looks odd with the textured line.
i think this is great Jannie! i love the colour scheme. and if you're slacking, then i'm the slackest!
hehehe... why don't you try a self portrait? It involves people (hehe) and I'm sure you have many funny thing to say about yourself.
It's always nice to see us as a part of our stories!
...and I love this just as it is! Do not touch the nose ;)
Kisses
You are right it doesn't feel like your usual style but that doesn't means is not good. Just a bit different.
I love the color scheme as always, you've done such a good job working with that one. And the storytelling on this one is great too. There is suspense.. what? what happened? Did he feed the fish already? The clock makes it feel like something is about to happen next. I like that.
I think that the subject you chose in this one is difficult to make. I mean how much fun can a guy on a robe be? (unless is Johnny Depp ) he, he... not much! That is why you don't find it as fun as your usual stuff. Maybe if were another character you would feel different about it.
OK, this turned out sooo long.. Sorry, I'm sure you are bored to death..
I'm leaving now.. :o)
I like the background, overall it's still you!
Hi Jannie...what fun and your people always make me smile...keep it up !
Never really thought of you as a slacker. Love the illo though. Reminds me a bit of Mr. Rogers. Really dig it.
Something tells me this guy has a very routine day! I REALLY like the outline style on the background objects and the extra texture - a fun change-up for editorial work or maps maybe? Maybe not so much the heavily textured facial lines, but everywhere else.
It's really great that you are stepping outside of your comfort zone, and doing a grand job of it too. But I know what you mean, it's always nice to get back to the things that just click! But I bet after having taken that step outside the usual style seems stronger?
