Oh boy...wow...that's detailed! Hmmm...well, if you are like me and get distracted by all kinds of junk in the house, I'd say a couple days. And if you take breaks for facebook...I give it a week. ;oB
wonderful question. people often ask me how long something takes me and usually it's asked directly after they've asked me how much something costs to be done (see them calculating a per hour rate?). I find this more often with fine art than with illustration. They feel like I shouldn't charge what I do until they figure out that sometimes with fine art I make pretty crappy wages. With illustration, however, I'm more uppity with the pricing.
Do you suppose that's probably why so many people ask questions about how much time something takes? or do they want to compete with each other? Faster = better? I don't know. In illustration these days it seems like the faster you are the more work you get out there and the more projects you can complete. It often drives me mad! ;)
Great work, as always. Congrats on the move. hope you and hubby are happy
Hey Crystal: when people ask me this question, I always assume it is because they want to know if they are being too slow. I guess in illustration, the faster you go, the more jobs you get done, like you said. I never really thought about people asking how long it takes me so then they can calculate how much money they should pay me by the hour, it usually happens in design projects. Its a really good point though, never thought of it that way.
Sometimes I don't want to know how long it takes me, or else I'd probably be better off working at McDonalds! :-P
As I've heard someone put it, we are in the business of selling our creativity, whether it takes us 1 hour or 10 hours. It should not be priced per hour.

So boy, I've been thinking of you a lot lately and wondering if you have a lot of the same headaches I do in Illustrator.
Like...oh gawd, first, finding a decent swatch palette. I keep telling myself I am going to make custom ones, but never get around to it.
Then, every time I color my sketches over with the paint brush, the darn line/fill keeps defaulting to LINE, when I want it to stay on fill! I rarely use the darn line part!
There's got to be a better way!!
OH, and there HAS to be some nifty keyboard commands to make it all happen quicker because I'm tired of always having to click on the arrow, then desktop, to deselect my last painted area.
