Winter

We've been a little quiet over at Illustration for Kids but we have another promo in the works with a winter theme.

I have some fun books coming out with a UK publisher I'm excited about and will announce them soon. In the meanwhile, stay warm everyone.

Playtime

A piece for our recent mailer over at Illustration for Kids, with a theme of "Playtime." Its been a while since I voluntarily did human kids for the mailer- anthropomorphic animals are always so much more fun. But I actually enjoyed this one and liked how it turned out.

Spring Promo at Illustration for Kids

Enjoying the spring weather as I work on my own book dummy and a piece for our spring promo over at Illustration for Kids:
And a thank you to Lori West at Curledupbooks.com for nice review of The Great Matzoh Hunt.

Thats about it around here. I've been taking a slight break from Facebook and Twitter, and giving myself more time for personal projects. Also I need to start doing some research on my upcoming trip to Tokyo. I can't wait!

Sprucing Up

There's been alot of sprucing up lately! Over at Ilustration for Kids, we got an updated logo and look (thanks, Holli!), with images used for our recent fall mailer. We are also at Facebook and twitter. Come follow us!

Our individual profile pages were also updated, with a fun Q & A section. Find out stuff like what kind of animal I want to be (no, its not a chicken) or some of my favorite artists. There is a "real" picture of me, I think I kind of look evil. Should I swap it out with a stock photo of a chicken instead?

A much needed update also went on over at my personal site. Happy to be using my moving monster as my welcome page. Oddly, the colors match exactly with the tabs above. And here I was thinking I've been making an effort in using different color palettes.

Please go visit and let me know what you think. Happy Friday!

How Long Does It Take You to Make an Illustration?

How long do you think it took me to do this sketch?

How long do you think it took me to color it?

Spring

This is my piece for our spring mailer at Illustration for Kids. I had a meeting with an art director once who told me that the problem with alot of vector illustrations isn't because its digital, but because it is usually very flat in terms of perspective. This is my attempt to take on that challenge and shake things up a bit.

Old work vs. New work

Thanks for all the comments for the previous post, everyone! Its great to get positive feedback and I will be sure to do more posts like it in the future.

Over at the illustration for kids blog, we are comparing our old work vs. our recent work. What a trip down memory lane!

Work from Art school days:
On the left, a self portrait (yes, the chicken obsession was already evident) and on the right, a gouache painting for a concepts class.

Going digital- work from 2003:
You can read more on these here. And be sure to check out the other Illustration for Kids group members' comparison. Its quite facsinating to see how we've all progressed.

Rockin' Girl

I'm a rockin' girl! Both Anja and Zari.zhm gave me the rockin' girl blogger award. Thank you so much, ladies! I love Anja's color palette (colorful yet sophisticated) and Zarifi inspired me to do this-combine illustration with photos. You two are rockin' too!

So I'll pass on the award to the ladies over at Illustration for kids. They are one of the best things that has happened since I started this blog...getting to know them and forming our illustration group. Just look at our summer mailer.

They are Claire, Paula, Jenn, Susan, Anette and Holli.

So busy busy here in the chicken coop. A leisurely summer is ending and now I have two huge projects that are going on at the same time. Some fun stuff last week though- I got a chance to meet with a very nice client face to face (a rare thing these days with emailing and the web). What a refreshing change! I got out of the house, woohoo!

Anyways, have a good week, everyone. Things are really crazy here but I hope to keep posts on a somwhat regular basis. Cheers!

Hickory Dickory Dock

I've been thinking about doing a series of book cover designs with a nursery rhyme/fairy tales theme. Put them all together and it would make a neat portfolio. Check out other Hickory Dickory Dock illos over at the Illustration for Kids Blog.

Spring Promo mailer

Over at Illustration for Kids, we just did a spring themed mailer. It amazes me how the seven of us from all different parts of the world can get together and come up with this. Thank goodness for the internet!

Here is my piece up close:
My piece turned out a little bit more on the sugary side than I would of liked...but overall I am happy with it. The weather here in NY is gorgeous today, hope everyone gets a chance to get some fresh spring air.
